Guiding Principles & Architecture

Rethinking everyday regional mobility through legal clarity, data minimization, and fair cost-sharing.

Zero-Profit Cost Sharing

Operating strictly under § 1 Abs. 2 Nr. 1 PBefG. Drivers recover only direct vehicle operating expenses (fuel and wear). No surge pricing, no platform cuts, and no commercial passenger transport licensing.

Zero Continuous GPS Tracking

Commuter privacy is non-negotiable. Distances are computed strictly between pre-set stop coordinates. No continuous GPS tracking, no background pinging, and no employee location monitoring.

Private Enterprise Networks

Employers and university campuses launch closed rideshare networks authenticated via corporate domain DNS TXT records. Coworkers ride together, reducing on-site parking pressure.

Audit-Ready Scope 3 Infrastructure

Activity-based person-km data aligned with GHG Protocol Scope 3 Category 7, ISO 14083, CSRD ESRS E1, and Dutch Wet WPM. Automatic k-anonymity suppresses groups under 5 to protect individual privacy.

Origin & Engineering Philosophy

Mitvia was founded in Bonn, Germany, along one of Europe's most congested commuter arteries connecting the Rhineland metropolis (the A555 and A59 motorways between Bonn and Cologne). Every morning, hundreds of thousands of commuters sit in gridlock in single-occupancy vehicles, while commercial ride-hailing apps introduce surveillance, high fees, and regulatory friction.

We engineered Mitvia as a decentralized, legally compliant mobility utility. Under German transport law (PBefG), genuine carpooling must be non-commercial. Rather than operating as a payment intermediary subject to banking regulation (BaFin ZAG), Mitvia uses an internal balance ledger (IOU tracking). Riders and drivers take turns driving or settle operating costs directly. Furthermore, contact data is never exposed publicly — telephone numbers and vehicle details are revealed strictly via secure RPC endpoints upon bilateral ride confirmation.

For employers, Mitvia provides an infrastructure layer that turns everyday commuting into verifiable Scope 3 Category 7 emissions reductions and immediate parking CapEx savings. Across over 28 mapped commuter corridors in Germany and the Netherlands, we empower organizations to replace speculative annual survey questionnaires with verified Tier 2 activity data.
